Parent Education Center now open at Corniche Hospital

Abu Dhabi, 14 August 2012: A new Parent Education Centre has been launched at Corniche Hospital, Abu Dhabi's leading maternity hospital, as part of its Patient and Family Education Programme.

Since its inception in 1984, Corniche has been offering lactation clinics, support groups and extensive neonatal services for its patients. "We are committed to improving the patient and family experience. It has been a top priority for our staff," says Mariam Al Mazrouei, M.D., the hospital's deputy chief executive officer. "Our new Parent Education Centre addresses our patients' growing need for immediate access to health care information, especially as it relates to the preparation for parenthood. The Centre will provide women and their families with the most up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge to help them to make informed decisions."

The Corniche Parent Education Centre offers classes on prenatal care, exercise during pregnancy, preparation for birth and birthing techniques, birth by caesarean section, and feeding and caring for newborns and infants. Classes are taught in Arabic, English, Malayalam, Hindi and Urdu, are delivered by a qualified and experienced parent education expert, and are available to all hospital patients and their families.

Sharing her Parent Education experience, Salama Al Hamli, a UAE national said: "I was very nervous about my pregnancy and birth.  The Parent Education midwife taught me everything I needed to know and the techniques helped me to have a natural birth.  And the breastfeeding clinic has helped and supported me to feed my baby the right way.  I would recommend this service to all women."

The Parent Education Midwife, Jasmine Sneyd, has nearly thirty years of midwifery and education experience.  As a nurse, midwife, lactation consultant, nutritional advisor and hypno-birthing practitioner, Jasmine is able to provide parents with extensive information and preparation.

Corniche Hospital is managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International, and is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
