Corniche Hospital's obstetrics consultant receives recognition from international organization
|
Abu Dhabi, 18 July 2012: Bashir
Salih, M.D., chief of obstetric medicine at Corniche Hospital,
has been awarded a prestigious honorary fellowship by the Royal
College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) of the United
Kingdom. The Fellowship of the College is presented to a
select number of non-members in acknowledgment of their
extraordinary leadership in the advancement of the science and
practice of obstetrics and gynaecology.
"The RCOG fellowship recognises
Dr. Salih's unsurpassed contribution to patient care in the UAE and
beyond," says Ron Lavater, Corniche Hospital's chief executive
officer. "Our medical centre is proud of his strong leadership and
his contribution to modern obstetric medicine that has brought
him this deserving recognition."

"This fellowship is truly
humbling. Having been an associate member of the RCOG for many
years, I am honoured to be accepted as a fellow of this esteemed
institution," says Dr. Salih. "I believe such acknowledgements will
motivate more consultants to work towards even greater achievements
in women's healthcare services."
In 1994 Dr. Salih joined Corniche
Hospital, where he established UAE's first obstetric medicine
department. Among the many advancements in women's health that have
been achieved at Corniche under Salih's leadership is the Advanced
Training Skills Module (ATSM) in Fetal Medicine for postgraduates,
the first and the only ATSM obstetrics and gynaecology training
unit outside the United Kingdom. This October, the programme will
see the first UAE national doctor graduate.
Dr. Salih is a graduate of
Martin-Luther University in Germany and a member of several
professional medical international associations, including the
American Diabetes Association (ADA) and North American Society of
Obstetric Medicine (NASOM). Since 2003, he has been the Middle
East's representative to the International Society of Obstetric
Medicine (ISOM).
Corniche Hospital is managed by
Johns Hopkins Medicine International, and is owned and operated by
Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), which is responsible for
the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics of
