4th Annual Obstetric Medicine Conference Focuses on Complicated Pregnancies

Abu Dhabi, 1st July 2012: Medical problems in pregnancy was the focus of Corniche Hospital's 4th Annual Obstetric Medicine Conference held recently in Abu Dhabi.  More than 130 prominent obstetricians, gynaecologists, anaesthesiologists, midwives and other health care professionals from medical centers across the UAE attended the conference.

"We were very pleased to note this year's excellent attendance and response from the medical community," said Judy Lee, M.D., chief medical officer of Corniche Hospital. "This annual symposium is a valuable forum in which experts have an opportunity to exchange and impart vital information about the care for pregnant women with medical disorders."

The participants examined the latest research and technical advances in the screening and monitoring of women with complicated pregnancies. Topics that were covered in presentations and panel discussions included respirology, neurology, nephrology, haematology, and cardiology.

The annual conference is an important part of Corniche's commitment to promoting high-quality continuing medical education to health care providers in the region. The hospital regularly invites international experts to lecture in obstetrics, gynaecology and neonatology, and hosts educational sessions to provide up-to date information to clinicians.

"Our on-going continuing education program, combined with the multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach of consultants from Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) and Corniche Hospital, has dramatically improved patient care and the outcome of pregnancies," said Jo Hubbard, education manager at Corniche Hospital. "It has also enabled the sharing of knowledge and current evidenced-based practice between health care providers in the UAE."

Corniche Hospital is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and is managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International in Baltimore, USA.
